Denver vs. Dallas

So to those of you who don’t know this is our last year in Michigan! We spent the last year researching, and visiting cities. The cities that made the final four was Nashville, TN – Charlotte, NC – Los Angeles, CA and Denver, CO. We were all but set on Denver, CO as most of you know! We have been trying to get Holly’s parents to escape Michigan with us but they want to go to Texas. And I thought, hey! I know a lot of cool people in Dallas! I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before but I wouldn’t mind living there at all! Sooo I made a comparison … I love comparisons =)

So what do you guys think? Should we get a poll going? I would love everyone’s two cents about either city. It’s a big decision, we need some help!!

i don’t know how current your information is, but we bought our house for 272, and it’s not worth 230 now. Craig can’t get a deceint paying job, and we’re NO WHERE finacially where we used to be prior to getting out of the military AND construction.

if you’re coming to Denver, there’s a lot that is great about our awesome state, but right now, if you will need additional work- 😐 it’s really really rough here right now.

We get blizzards too 🙂 in May. LOL

So is Charlotte out? That’s obviously our pick since you’d only be 1.5 hours from us. Charlotte is a great city!! Close to mountains and beach.

There are obviously pros and cons to both, but i think you might have better luck in Denver because I think your market will be better with the artistic community. I just think you and Holly might get a little bored in Texas and seriously-when would you ever get to see any of your family? (Gaupers and DeBoers?) My vote is for Denver.

Seems like Dallas has the best cost/benefit ratio. You’ll have a higher standard of living and more $$ to boot.

Plus, with as many people in the state, you’re bound to have lots of business.

Proximity to other cities in Dallas is also good. Once you get out of a 45 mile range of Denver, you’ve basically got no major cities in the rest of the state (or neighboring states).

Biggest downside to Dallas (in my opinion) is the DFW international airport. Got stuck in that airport for 2 days straight last year due to a freak snowstorm in MARCH! They got all of 1/4 inch and the entire city shut down, over 200 accidents. Great times.

If San Francisco is out of the game…( although it would be perfect for you two) then my vote strictly goes to Denver. It’s an amaaaazing city, and will forever be at the top of my 5 most incredible places to live. There’s no bad season because there is always something to do whether it be skiing or white water rafting. You will never be bored, and it attracts very interesting and eclectic people. In comparison to Texas, which I have had MUCH recent experience due to my dad and step-mom living near Houston it ranks way, way higher! Whenever I visit Texas all I can do is think to myself how much I would NEVER want to live there…. the people are very nice, but from my personal experience, are way behind in anything technological. Plus they drive enormous trucks with horns on the front that can be initmidating.:) Ok.. that’s enough for now, I’ve written a short story… just want to see you guys happy!

My vote goes to Denver as well. But I’m probably the opposite of Holly. I HATE hot weather. I LOVE warm weather, but hot is just gross. Plus snowboarding is the best thing ever. Yes, even better than photography.

I vote Minneapolis. That was an option, right? Talk about an artistic community…

Okay well I guess if I have to cast a real vote, it goes to Denver. I think it’s a beautiful state and the Gaupers are nearby!

WOW! I just found you on flickr…I am so blown away! (Sorry this is off topic). I am pretty new to photography and always trying to get better. I think you are officially my FAVORITE photographer. I love everything about your stuff. It is where I want to be with my work in the future. Your editing style, your angle, the ‘look’! I would LOVE to learn from you, but you live so far away! 🙁 Keep up the amazing work, I will definitely be keeping an eye on you! 🙂

    I vote Dallas, aka:
    Big D
    DFW metroplex.
    Cow Town.
    Buckle of the Bible belt.
    Home of the Dallas Stars.
Smoked Brisket Capital of the universe.
    Where The East Meets West.
Future home of Ryan and Holly.

    Yee Haw!

    p.s.
Denver does have more ‘fit’ people.
In Denver they go skinny dippin’, in Texas we go chunky dunkin’!
and we know how to eat good! Remember Uncle Julios!
Aaaand, Chunky Dunkers still like their pictures taken! 🙂

way more pros to dallas than denver. way more cons to denver than dallas.

i live near dallas. and there are a ton of stinkin millionaires and wealthy people. u just have to find the right areas.

people are more into image and fitness in the metroplex area (like dallas/big city area than country zones). you’ll get a wide variety of people. in the city, people are more how you would imagine a “city” person to look. in the country, people will look more “texan”. it just depends where you go. nothing is too far from each other, so you have a lot of options.

plus the majority of texans are friendlier than people from other states.

    Sooo…
TEXAS IS THE WAY TO GO!

(plus, when I get married you can do my wedding!)
